There was a drum roll and the spotlight hit the Great Alphonso as he approached the growling lion. He cracked the whip and the lion opened its jaws wide.
The Great Alphonso stepped closer, unzipped his fly and to the amazement of the audience, flopped it between the gaping jaws.
When he stepped back after a terrifying 10 seconds there was a resounding applause and the ringmaster proclaimed it the bravest act in circus history.
"Indeed, anyone who can emulate that feat right here and now will readily receive the sum of one hundred thousand dollars." roared the ringmaster. "Do we have any volunteers?" There was a timid voice of acceptance in the back row and the spotlight picked out a reluctant hero being pushed to the front of the crowd.
He finally reached the ringmaster and said: "I don't think I can open my mouth as wide as the lion, but I'm willing to give it a try!" |
